MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara on Tuesday called on the government to provide living facilities for public school teachers, especially those who travel long distances to get to their schools, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said teachers take “perilous journeys” to deliver the learning modules to their students, especially those in far-flung areas.
“This would not be an issue if they have the option of living within or near their schools,” he said. Angara has been pushing for the passage of Senate Bill No. 2317, or the Teachers’ Home in School Act, which seeks to provide public school teachers with “livable and humane” living facilities within the schools or nearest the schools where they teach.
