DOH records 4,516 new cases of COVID-19; active cases to 46,806 — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday recorded an increase of 4,516 in the country’s total caseload of COVID-19 infections, as the number of active cases currently is at 46,806.

According to the DOH, in its latest tally, the total COVID-19 caseload is now at 1,517,903.

It added that the active cases accounts for 3.1 percent of all the confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country since last year.

The DOH, however, recorded more new recoveries with 5,240 people, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,444,253.

The total caseload for Monday represents 10.9 percent of some 34,562 people who were tested for COVID-19 last Sunday. The DOH generally releases new daily tallies based on test results submitted to it by laboratories the day before.

Fatalities currently stand at 26,844 after 58 new deaths were reported.

“Nine duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 6 are recoveries.  Moreover, 30 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” said DOH.

The DOH also said that all laboratories were operational on Sunday, but 10 labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

It added that the 10 non-reporting laboratories contribute 2.2 percent of samples tested and 2.9 percent of positive individuals, on average.

As of writing, the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker showed that global COVID-19 cases are currently at 190,939,042, this includes 4,096,418 deaths.
