PH expects delivery of 136.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines within six months

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines expects the delivery of 136.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines within six months, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the national vaccine manager, said Monday during the taped weekly briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte.

“We have 164 million doses for procurement, from COVAX and other donations. Out of these doses, we have received 27.9 [million] — or 17 percent. We are still expecting 136.1 million within six months — or 83 percent,” Galvez said, speaking partly in Filipino.

Following is the breakdown of the 164 million doses secured:

According to Galvez, the vaccines to be cost-shared with the Gavi, World Health Organization, and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations co-led COVAX facility are of the brand Johnson & Johnson, the single-dose Janssen vaccine.

“We had a contract with COVAX that we will buy an additional 5 million doses of the J&J vaccine,” he said.

As of this writing, the Philippines has so far administered 15 million COVID-19 vaccine doses with 4.7 million persons already fully vaccinated against the disease.
