MANILA, Philippines — The Manila City government has so far traced 36 close contacts of the three Delta variant cases detected in its jurisdiction, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

“Kanina lang po narinig natin si Mayor Isko [Moreno] nagbibigay na ng update. They were able to identify about 36 individuals already who came in contact with three positive individuals (with) Delta variant in the City of Manila,” DOH spokesperson Ma. Rosario Vergeire said in a press briefing.

(Earlier, we heard Mayor Isko Moreno give some updates. They were able to identify about 36 individuals already who came in contact with three positive individuals for the Delta variant in the City of Manila.)

Even with the detection of three Delta variant cases in Manila City, Vergeire said that its situation remains “manageable.”

“Dito naman po sa City of Manila with analysis of their data at nakipag-usap po tayo kay Mayor Isko, nakita natin iyong mga kaso nila manageable. Nakita natin effective naman po iyong ginagawang PDITR [Prevention, Detection, Isolation, Treatment, and Reintegration],” Vergeire said.

(With the analysis of the data in the City of Manila, we talked with Mayor Isko and their cases remain manageable. We saw that their PDITR is effective.)

“Sabi natin, mag-granular lockdown pa muna but every day, we will be assessing kung kailangan nating i-escalate ang restriction,” she went on.

(We told them to impose granular lockdowns for now, but we will be assessing if we need to escalate the restrictions every day.)

Health authorities have so far detected 35 Delta variant cases in the country, three of whom have already died.
