MANILA, Philippines — The country’s total caseload of COVID-19 infections has reached 1,513,396 cases after an additional 5,651 cases were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday.
According to the DOH, there are currently 47,561 active cases, which accounts for 3.1 percent of all the confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country since last year.
The total caseload for Monday represents 11 percent of some 50,385 people who were tested for the coronavirus last Saturday. The DOH generally releases new daily tallies based on test results submitted to it by laboratories the day before.
Meanwhile, DOH recorded 5,332 people who have recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,439,049. Deaths, on the other hand, stand at 26,786 after 72 new deaths were reported.
“Moreover, 88 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 39 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” said DOH.
The DOH also said that all laboratories were operational on Saturday, but six of them were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
It added that the six non-reporting laboratories contribute 0.4 percent of samples tested and 1.0 percent of positive individuals, on average.
As of writing, the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker showed that global COVID-19 cases are currently at 190,429,074, this includes 4,089,084 deaths.
