MANILA, Philippines — The Taguig City local government said Monday it gave P15,000 worth of scholarship vouchers to its graduating Grade 12 students and cash incentives to top students of the city’s public schools.

In a statement on Monday, the Taguig local government said the scholarship vouchers can be used for the graduating students’ chosen college or university.

The voucher allows the awardee to claim the voucher under the Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-Need (LANI) Scholarship program, as long as the student is enrolled in any technical-vocational, certificate, or baccalaureate course.

“This voucher is part of the LANI Scholarship Program that persuades graduates to take up tertiary education. To our beloved students, we have faced so much this year, let us get inspiration from this graduation. We will not abandon you. We are a loving and nurturing community, we are one family,” Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano said in his message for the graduating batch.

The Top 3 to 10 elementary students received P5,000 each while completers and senior high students received P7,500 each.

Further, the local government said the Top 1 students in each elementary class also received 2,500, while Top 1 completer and senior high students from each class received P5,000.

In February 2020, the city passed an ordinance wherein P700 million was allotted to different Taguig’s existing and new scholarship programs.

The local government unit also mentioned that these scholarships cater to different students such as student-athletes, medicine, and engineering students, Taguig public servants who want to study, children or dependents of Taguig’s public servants, and the rest of the city’s regular students.

As of April 2021, the local government said they have produced more than 58,000 scholars and are continuously accepting eligible applicants — Sofia Vertucio, INQUIRER trainee
