DOH logs 117 new COVID-19 deaths, PH’s death toll now at 26,714
MANILA, Philippines — The total number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 is now at 26,714 after 117 new deaths were reported, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Sunday.
The total number of deaths is 1.77 percent of all cases, according to the DOH.
Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 cases is now at 1,507,755 after 5,411 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the country.
Of the total number of cases, 47,190 or 3.1 percent are tagged as “active cases,” with most of them having mild or no symptoms at 93.8 percent.
The total number of recoveries meanwhile is now at 1,433,851 or 95.1 percent of the infections after 5,439 new recoveries were reported.
Article continues after this advertisementMoreover, 82 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation, the DOH said.
Article continues after this advertisementThe latest data from the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker reported that the Philippines is only behind Indonesia in terms of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 2,832,755 cases as the country records a spike in cases due to the Delta variant.
Indonesia also leads the tally in the region in terms of deaths at 72,489, while the Philippines is at the far second.
As of posting, the total number of COVID-19 cases worldwide has crossed the 190 million mark, which includes 4.08 million deaths, according to the tracker.
