MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines recorded 5,411 new COVID-19 infections to bring the country’s total caseload to 1,507,755, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Sunday.

Of the total number of cases, 47,190 or 3.1 percent are tagged as “active cases,” with those that have mild or no symptoms at 93.8 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 recoveries is now at 1,433,851 or 95.1 percent of the total number of cases, after 5,439 new recoveries were reported.

The DOH also reported 117 new deaths, bring the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 26,714, or 1.77 percent of all cases.

Moreover, 82 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation, the DOH said.

The latest data from the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker reported that the Philippines is only behind Indonesia in terms of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 2,832,755 cases as the country records a spike in cases due to the highly-contagious Delta variant.

As of posting, the total number of COVID-19 cases globally has crossed the 190 million mark, which includes 4.08 million deaths, according to the tracker.
