Pedestrian dead in Lucena road accident

LUCENA CITY – A pedestrian died after he was hit by a wayward sports utility vehicle (SUV) here on Saturday night, police said Sunday.

Lucena police reported that a Mitsubishi Montero Sport being driven by Alfredo Santos, 56, was negotiating the old Maharlika Highway and suddenly swerved towards the sidewalk, accidentally hitting pedestrian Marcial Marinay, 22, in Barangay Ibabang Dupay around 10:30 p.m.

The wayward vehicle also hit a parked tricycle until it finally crashed into a concrete post.

Marinay sustained grave injuries and was taken to the Quezon Medical Center but was later declared dead.

Santos was detained and is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
