Eid al-Adha holiday set on July 20

In accordance with Republic Act No. 9849 which declares Eid al-Adha a national regular holiday, President Duterte issued Proclamation No. 1189, setting the date of the Muslim holy day on July 20.

Eid al-Adha, one of the two major feasts of Islam, commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God’s command.

In the Islamic lunar calendar, the movable holiday falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and lasts four days. —JEROME ANING
