MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility is likely to enhance the southwest monsoon in the coming days, the state weather bureau said Thursday.
The LPA was spotted 1,600 kilometers east of Central Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
While it has a minimal chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours, it may boost the prevailing southwest monsoon.
It is expected to move towards the northern part of Luzon, although not close enough to land.
Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, and the Mindoro provinces will have cloudy skies with scattered rains due to the southwest monsoon, Pagasa said.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Coastal waters across the country will be in slight to moderate condition.
