MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will pull the “habagat” or the southwest monsoon, bringing cloudy skies and rain in Southern Luzon and Visayas, said state meteorologists on Wednesday.
Mindanao and the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, however, will be sunny but with sudden scattered rain during the afternoon and nighttime due to thunderstorms caused by the “habagat.”
While the LPA being monitored near Northern Samar has already dissipated, Pagasa recorded another LPA outside PAR last spotted 1,655 km east of Central Luzon as of 3 p.m.
“Ang nakikita nating scenario for now, Papasok ng PAR ang LPA tiyak ay siya kikilos naman pahilagang silangan palabas ng PAR, kung saan siya posibleng mabuo bilang isang bagyo, at ‘yan ay mangyayari in the next 24 to 36 hours,” said Pagasa weather specialist Ariel Rojas.
(The scenario we see for now, PAR will enter the LPA and it will then move northeast out of PAR, where it will likely form into a typhoon. All this might happen in the next 24 to 36 hours.)
If the LPA forms into a typhoon while inside the PAR, Pagasa said the LPA will be given the local name “Fabian.”
“Sa kasulukuyan hindi natin nakikita na ito ay tatama sa alin mang bahagi ng kalupaan ng bansa pero ito ay hihila at magpapalakas sa ating southwest monsoon o habagat at posibleng magdulot ng pagulan sa kanluran at gitnang bahagi ng ating bansa,” explained Rojas.
(At present we do not see that it will hit any part of the country but it will pull and strengthen our southwest monsoon and possibly cause rain in the western and central parts of our country.)
