2,400 doses of Sputnik V, 10,000 Coronavac vaccines arrive in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY—At least 2,400 doses of newly donated Russian-made anti-COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V (Gamaleya) arrived Tuesday morning, with 10,000 vials of the China-made Coronavac (Sinovac) vaccines at the Legazpi City Domestic Airport.

The Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol said the vaccines arrived around 9 a.m. in nine boxes aboard a Philippine Air Lines commercial flight from Manila.

Noemi Bron, DOH Bicol health and promotion department chief, said the national government allocated the Sputnik V vaccines to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital and Legazpi City for “pilot” rollout.

The Sinovac vaccines were for additional second doses of residents of Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Sorsogon, and the island provinces of Masbate and Catanduanes.

The vaccines were brought to the DOH Bicol cold Storage facility for inventory.

The DOH vaccine rollout tracker as of July 8 shows that the region had received 294,380 doses of vaccines against COVID-19, of which 274,821 or 93 percent had been inoculated to health workers, senior citizens, and persons with illnesses.
