Alleged rebel slain; high-powered guns seized in Masbate clash

A communist rebel was killed while high-powered firearms and explosives were recovered after an encounter with the police in Masbate.

LEGAZPI CITY—A suspected communist rebel was killed while high-powered firearms and explosives were recovered after an encounter with the police in Uson, town in Masbate province on Monday morning.

Police Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said while the 1st and 2nd Police Mobile Force Company, and the Provincial Intelligence Unit of Masbate were in an internal security operations, they encountered suspected members of New People’s Army in the Zone 3 of Barangay Dapdap at around 3:30 a.m.

The firefight lasted for about five minutes.

The police recovered a M16 rifle with 15 bullets, an improvised explosive device and personal belongings of the rebels.

In the hot pursuit operations, they recovered a body of an unidentified rebel still with M16 rifle in Sitio Tambangan of the same village at around 8:30 a.m.

There were no reported casualties in the government side.
