MANILA, Philippines — Herd immunity may be achieved in San Juan City by the end of August, Mayor Francis Zamora said Monday.
According to Zamora, as of July 11, the city has so far vaccinated 96,610 residents with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine
The city mayor added that 70 percent of the city’s population has already received the first dose of the vaccine.
“At the rate, we are going, at the rate, we are vaccinating now, I believe we will be able to achieve herd immunity by end of August this year,” Zamora said.
Zamora likewise reminded workers in San Juan that they can also be vaccinated in the city, even if they are not residents.
A third vaccination site will also be opened in the city and once this is open, Zamora said the city can vaccinate up to 5,000 individuals per day.
“Bagamat dito sa San Juan nagsimula ang first local transmission ng COVID-19 sa Pilipinas, dito rin natin unang tatapusin ang COVID sa San Juan,” Zamora said.
Further, Zamora said that once all San Juan City residents have been vaccinated, the city government will help in the vaccination drive of other local government units in the country.
