SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Two volcanic earthquakes were recorded in Mt. Pinatubo on Sunday (July 11), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In its latest bulletin issued in the last 24 hours, Philvolcs said Alert Level 1 remains hoisted over Mt. Pinatubo. Alert Level 1 means there is low-level unrest in the volcano.
The earthquakes were related to tectonic processes beneath the volcano but no imminent eruption is foreseen, Phivolcs said.
On July 8, two volcanic earthquakes were also registered by Phivolcs around Pinatubo.
Under Alert Level 1, extreme caution is advised when venturing near Pinatubo’s crater.
It was in March this year when the volcano was first placed on Alert Level 1 due to a series of imperceptible earthquakes recorded there since January
It was also the first time that Phivolcs raised the warning status in Mt. Pinatubo since 1996 when it was placed on zero (calm) or normal status.
Mt. Pinatubo is part of the Zambales Mountain Range straddling the boundaries of Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales provinces.
