MANILA, Philippines — The country’s confirmed COVID-19 cases again reached the 51,000-mark on Friday after recording 5,881 more coronavirus infections.
According to DOH, the 51,902 active cases compose 3.6 percent of the total 1,461,455 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country. Active cases in the country were below 50,000 in the previous days.
Another 3,003 patients have also recovered, bringing the tally of recoveries to 1,383,833, or 94.7 percent of the confirmed cases. Meanwhile, 70 more patients have died, raising the death count to 25,720, or 1.76 percent of all the overall tally.
The DOH said 11 percent of the 50,572 people who were tested were found positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.
The health department said all testing laboratories were operational on Wednesday but five laboratories were not able to submit their data. The five non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 2.2 percent of samples tested and 2 percent of positive individuals, based on data in the last 14 days.
Ten duplicate entries, including seven recoveries, were removed from the total case count, while one case later found to have tested negative has been removed from the total case count.
Twenty-eight cases initially counted as recoveries have been validated to be active cases and 34 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation, said the DOH.
