Zambales schools hold clean-up drive against dengue

ZambalesSAN ANTONIO, Zambales––All schools in Botolan town in this province held a synchronized ringing of bells Friday morning to signal a mass clean-up drive to combat dengue.

In an advisory, the Botolan government said the clean-up drive aims to keep the communities safe from the breeding sites of mosquitoes that spread the dengue virus.

The province has been seeing a rise in dengue cases in the past weeks.

Local health data shows that two persons had died of dengue fever this week.

Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said the latest fatalities from Iba and San Narciso towns were aged 9 and 35.

Bueno said at least 614 dengue cases had been reported in the province since January this year.

Among the dengue cases, last month was a 12-year-old boy who also tested positive for COVID-19. INQ
