LUCENA CITY—The death toll due to COVID-19 in Quezon province inched closer to 700 with eight persons added Wednesday, according to the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO).
The death toll in the province now stood at 699 since the pandemic struck in 2020.
The IPHO said the latest fatalities were from Lucena City and Lopez town, with two each; and Lucban, Pagbilao, Candelaria, and Sariaya towns, with one each.
Thirty of the total deaths happened between July 1 to 7, according to the report.
In June, the IPHO recorded 140 deaths, higher than the 125 in May and the 114 in April.
The Quezon capital Lucena, which is under the strict modified enhanced community quarantine, has the highest fatalities at 130.
As of June 7, Quezon, which remains under general community quarantine until July 31, recorded 15,619 COVID-19 cases and 14,108 recoveries.
The province has 812 active cases, with Lucena City having the highest at 210 as of July 7.
