MANILA, Philippines — Active COVID-19 cases in the country went down to 47,519 as of Wednesday, July 7, as the Department of Health (DOH) only recorded 4,289 infections.

DOH said in its COVID-19 bulletin that the active cases represent 3.3 percent of the total confirmed COVID-19 cases of 1,450,110.

In contrast to the lower than usual new infections, 6,399 recoveries were tallied, for a total recovery count of 1,377,132, or 95.0 percent of the total cases.

Most of the patients, or 90.4 percent of active cases, have still exhibited mild symptoms only, while 4.1 percent were asymptomatic.  At least 2.3 percent of the patients currently have severe symptoms, while 1.6 percent are critical.

Of the 35,460 tests conducted from July 5, DOH said that 11.3 percent tested positive.

In terms of COVID-19 bed capacity in the National Capital Region, 45 percent of intensive care unit beds are being utilized, while 37 percent of isolation beds are occupied.  All over the country, 57 percent of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients are occupied, while 47 percent of isolation beds are used.

DOH said all laboratories were operational last July 5, but four labs have not submitted their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.  Also, based on the data from the last 14 days, the five laboratories that did not submit data accounted for 1.6 percent of all the samples tested and 2.3 percent of all the positive cases.

There were also 61 cases previously reported to be recovered, which were brought back to the active case count; 123 recoveries, on the other hand, were reclassified as deaths after further validation.

Eleven duplicate entries were also removed from the total case count, of which six are under-recoveries, and one was death.
