Bring home stranded OFWs, gov’t urged

MANILA, Philippines — ACT-CIS Rep. Niña Taduran called on the government Monday to bring home overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who have been stranded abroad due to the ban on the entry of passengers from countries with high cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant.

Taduran said that at least 4,500 OFWs from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have sought their help after the travel ban for travelers from UAE, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Oman was extended until July 15.

“They are already losing a lot of money and they have nowhere to go. They are depressed and exasperated,” Taduran said in a statement. “We need to bring them home to their families,” she said.
