TD Emong, LPA, and ‘habagat’ bring rains, thunderstorms over PH

MANILA, Philippines — Parts of the country are expected to have rains and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours due to Tropical Depression Emong, a low pressure area, and the southwest monsoon, the weather bureau said Monday.
In its 24-hour forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Batanes and Babuyan Islands will have rains with gusty winds due to Emong.
Emong was last spotted 205 km East of Calayan, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness up to 70 kph.
Pagsa said it is moving northwestward at 45 kph.
The tropical depression, along with the trough of a low pressure area, will likewise bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Apayao, and the rest of Cagayan.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Visayas, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, and Zambales, Pagasa said.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms, the weather bureau added.
Pagasa warned that flash floods or landslides may occur during moderate to at times heavy rains or severe thunderstorms.
Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon is expected to have moderate to strong winds from south to southeast, with moderate to rough coastal waters.
The rest of Luzon, meanwhile, will have light to moderate winds from southwest to south and slight to moderate sea conditions.
Light to moderate winds from south to southwest will likewise prevail over Visayas and Mindanao, coupled with slight to moderate coastal waters, Pagasa said.
Sunset on Monday will be at 6:30 p.m. while sunrise on Tuesday morning will be at 5:32 a.m.
Meanwhile, moonrise will be at 2:19 a.m. on Tuesday while moonset will be at 3:24 p.m. on Tuesday.
Pagasa also recorded a minimum temperature of 24.8°C at 5 a.m. and a maximum temperature of 31.8°C at 12 p.m. at the weather station at the Science Garden, Diliman, Quezon City.
