Cop shot dead in Cotabato City

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Unidentified men shot dead Monday night a police officer assigned as bodyguard to the assistant treasurer of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Senior Superintendent Danny Reyes, Cotabato City police chief, identified the victim as Police Officer 3 Salipuddin Haron, 43, a member of the ARMM police office.

Reyes said Haron, who served as escort of ARMM assistant treasurer Sahad Sambutuan, was driving a motorbike along Sinsuat Avenue when two men riding  on another motorcycle fired at him with an M16  rifle.

Passersby rushed Haron to the Cotabato Regional Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

Reyes said that persoinal grudge could be the motive for the attack but Haron’s relatives said the victim had no known enemies as he was a good and religious man.
