MANILA, Philippines — The country’s active COVID-19 case count as of Saturday, July 3 was at 53,665, slightly lower compared to the previous day’s tally due to 7,698 new recoveries.

Figures from the Department of Health (DOH) placed the new COVID-19 infections at 5,908.  Active cases account for 3.8 percent of the total confirmed COVID-19 cases recorded, which is now at 1,430,419.

Of this number, 94.5 percent or 1,351,691 were recoveries.

Most of the patients or 91.2 percent of active cases have mild symptoms while 3.8 percent were asymptomatic.  At least 2.0 percent of the patients currently have severe symptoms while 1.4 percent are in critical condition.

Of the 50,752 tests conducted from July 1, the DOH said 10.6 percent have tested positive.

In terms of COVID-19 bed capacity in the National Capital Region, 40 percent of intensive care unit beds are being utilized while 36 percent of isolation beds are occupied.  All over the country, 55 percent of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients are occupied, while 46 percent of isolation beds are being used.

The DOH said that all laboratories were operational last July 1, but five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System. Data over the last 14 days also showed that the five laboratories that did not submit data accounted for 2.2 percent of all the samples tested, and 2.9 percent of all the positive cases.

There were also 19 cases previously reported to be recoveries that were brought back to the active case count; 46 recoveries on the other hand were reclassified as deaths after further validation.

Seven duplicate entries were also removed from the total case count, of which five are under recoveries.
