COA flags MMDA over delayed projects in NCR

/ 05:10 AM July 03, 2021

State auditors have called out the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for delays in implementing over P1.279 billion in flood control projects in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Of this amount, P835.244 million was for 67 flood mitigation projects, which were not completed as of end-2020 due to delays in procurement or in the release of funds, while P444.213 million was for 41 projects, which were not completed on schedule.

“All these hindered the MMDA in attaining its important objective to mitigate flooding in the metropolis,” the Commission on Audit (COA) said in a 2020 audit report.

The MMDA appropriated P1.072 million for 94 flood control projects for completion in 2020, but only 27 projects worth P234.471 million were completed. —Julie M. Aurelio
