MANILA, Philippines — State weather specialists are closely monitoring cloud clusters inside and outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) due to possibility that it may eventually become low pressure areas (LPAs).
Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Friday showed thick clouds southwest and east of the country — despite a weak southwest monsoon or habagat episode.
“Sa ngayon meron tayong binabantayang mga cloud clusters o kumpol ng kaulapan, isa na rito itong nasa silangan ng Visayas at ‘yong isa ay nasa labas ng ating area of responsibility,” weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said.
(As of now we are monitoring cloud clusters, one of which can be found east of Visayas while the other is still outside the Philippine area of responsibility.)
“Pinapakita ng mga forecast model na ating ginagamit na may posibilidad na may pumasok na low pressure area next week, at sa ngayon ay nakikita natin na pwede itong maka-apekto lalo na dito sa silangang bahagi ng Visayas at Mindanao. So mag-antabay tayo sa mga susunod na araw sa mga magiging development nitong mga kaulapan na ating binabantayan,” he added.
(Weather forecast models that Pagasa is using show the high possibility of a low pressure area entering the PAR next week, and for now we can say that it would have an effect especially over the eastern side of Visayas and Mindanao. So we are advising the public to monitor developments in the coming days.)
These cloud clusters east of the country would result in a cloudy Saturday for several parts of Luzon, especially Bicol Region. As a result, temperatures over Manila and Legazpi would go down to 25 to 31 degrees Celsius, and Tagaytay with 21 to 30 degrees.
Three-day forecasts also showed that starting Sunday, Metro Manila and Baguio City would see more clouds and scattered rain showers.
Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon would have a generally fair weather on Saturday, with Tuguegarao having temperatures of 24 to 34 degrees Celsius, Laoag with 25 to 32 degrees, Baguio City with 17 to 24 degrees, and Puerto Princesa 26 to 32 degrees.
For Visayas and Mindanao, the eastern side would also be affected by the cloud clusters which would bring colder temperatures over Tacloban at 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. The rest of the island groups would have fair weather, with Cebu and Iloilo registering something around 25 to 32 degrees, Zamboanga with 24 to 33 degrees, Cagayan de Oro with 23 to 33 degrees, and Davao with 24 to 32 degrees.
