OLONGAPO CITY — Over 19,500 residents in the city have already been vaccinated against COVID-19 but the number remained still far below the target population for herd immunity, an official said on Friday, July 2.
Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said only 4,500 of this number had received their second dose or were already fully vaccinated, which reflected only 3.2 percent of the target 140,000 vaccine recipients.
He said hitting the city’s target was at snail’s pace due to the limited supply of vaccines coming from the national government.
About 6,000 of the inoculated residents are senior citizens while the rest are health workers and those with comorbidities.
Early this week, the city has also started accommodating overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), including seafarers, in its vaccine rollout.
Paulino said OFWs who are scheduled to leave the country in the next four months could avail of the vaccine.
