MANILA, Philippines – Two soldiers from the 32nd Division Reconnaissance Company of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division returned a bag of cash containing P90,000 they recovered in La Libertad, Negros Oriental Monday, the military said Tuesday.
Privates Danny Faigane and Marlon Vera were part of the retrieval team that was deployed in La Libertad, following the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Negros Oriental last February 6, said Captain Reylan Java.
He said the two immediately informed their commanding officer, First Lieutenant Gerald Deles, that they found money on the retrieval site Monday morning.
“Knowing that said money is badly needed especially during this time of calamity, we immediately look for the owner of the house where we found the money,” said Deles.
Meanwhile, Vera was rushed to the brigade headquarters for immediate treatment for wounds incurred during retrieval operations. He was said to have had eight stitches from his minor surgery, and was recovering as of posting time, Java said.
The owner of the cash, Virginia Callora, was said to be “a picture of pure bliss” when she got back her money, he added.
Major General Jose Mabanta, 3ID Commander, commended both Faigne and Vera for their honesty.
