MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported 4,509 new COVID-19 cases that brought the country’s total number of infections to 48,649.

The country’s total confirmed coronavirus cases is now at 1,412,559.

Of this number, 1,339,248 have already recovered, including the 5,839 patients who were added to the list of recoveries.

However, 105 more patients succumbed to COVID-19, pushing the country’s death toll to 24,662.

The DOH said 11.3 percent of 35,816 people who were tested were found positive for the virus on Monday. All laboratories were operational on Monday, but six laboratories were not able to submit their data.

Based on data over the last two weeks, the six non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 1.6 percent of samples tested and 2.2 percent of positive individuals.

Meanwhile, seven duplicate entries, including five recoveries, were removed from the total case count. One case, tagged as recovered, also tested negative in the initial test and was removed from the total tally.

Forty-nine cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were also classified as deaths after final validation, according to the DOH.
