Captain Dexter Torres, officer-in-charge of the Coast Guard in Northern Mindanao, said Eleazar Casas, chair of the city’s federation of fishermen’s associations, told him a fisherman reported seeing a cadaver floating in the shores of nearby Lugait town.
Torres immediately dispatched rescuers from a Coast Guard sub-station in Lugait.
Petty Officer 3 Ibrahim Jowak said it took them 30 minutes to scour the coasts before finally retrieving the body of Rolando some three nautical miles from the shores.
The boy went missing while picking seashells in Buru-un last Friday.
Rolando’s younger brother, 6-year-old Junrey, who was also reported missing, was later found that day, his dead body floating on the coast of nearby Linamon town in Lanao del Norte.
