Motorcycle rider dies in Makati City road mishap

MANILA, Philippines — A motorcycle rider was killed when he was hit by a truck and dragged at an intersection in Makati City early Tuesday morning.

Southern Police District (SPD) identified the victim as Benedict Jose Gonzales, 42.

As Gonzales was about to proceed towards the intersection along Osmeña Highway and Arnaiz St. during the green light on his lane, the truck zoomed past the intersection and tried to beat the red light.

The rider was hit and dragged several meters away.

SPD released the name of the victim as the family was already informed of his death.

Authorities said the truck driver of the Isuzu Wing with plate number RJT 110 fled from the scene on foot and is still currently at large.

The driver is facing a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
