LUCENA CITY—A female public school teacher was shot and killed Monday by a gunman in Sariaya town in Quezon province, police said Tuesday.
The Sariaya police reported that Marilou Lagaya, 48, was aboard a motorcycle driven by her cousin, Maricel Surquia, when the assailant, armed with a caliber .45 pistol, repeatedly shot Lagaya at 3:40 p.m. in the sub-village of Berhinan in Manggalang village. Lagaya died on the spot.
The gunman escaped.
The report said Lagaya was on her way home from the elementary school in the village where she was teaching.
Investigators have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting, even as the police are in hot pursuit of the suspect.
