MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is “seriously studying” running for the vice presidential post in the 2022 elections, PDP-Laban party vice-chairman Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said Tuesday.
“Based on my understanding, he is seriously studying the clamor for him to run as vice president. There was a clamor by PDP-Laban members,” Cusi said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel.
On Monday night, the President expressed his openness to join the vice presidential race in 2022 — this time, saying: “It’s not at all a bad idea. If there’s a space for me there, maybe.”
Asked if this means that Duterte will be the vice presidential candidate of the PDP-Laban in the coming elections, Cusi said: “That one I cannot answer for him.”
Last May, PDP-Laban adopted a resolution Monday seeking to “convince” the Chief Executive to run for the vice presidential post in the 2022 national elections.
