MANILA, Philippines — A total of 99,600 doses of Moderna vaccine will arrive in the country on Tuesday, June 29, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the country’s vaccine manager, reported Monday during weekly Palace briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the Philippines.
“Before the end of the month, the additional doses of Moderna will arrive. We will give these to OFWs [overseas Filipino workers] and seafarers as promised,” Galvez said in Filipino. “And also for the frontliners. Our different government employees really need these.”
This is the second batch of Moderna vaccines that will arrive in the country this month.
On Sunday night, 249,600 doses of Moderna vaccine arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3. Of the total doses, 150,000 were procured by the government and 99,600 were bought by the private sector, led by International Container Terminal Services, Inc., according to the National Task Force Against COVID-19 (NTF).
The Philippines procured at least 20 million doses of Moderna vaccines — 13 million by the government and seven million by the private sector. All 20 million doses are expected to arrive within the year, NTF said.
