LAOAG CITY––A 45-year-old man from Sarrat town in Ilocos Norte allegedly shot and killed his wife after the latter failed to collect unpaid money Sunday from their debtors, police said.

The police said suspect Jesus Aquino and victim Rizaly Aquino, his wife, had a heated argument over the debt which was supposed to be collected by the victim from one of their borrowers.

“At the height of their argument, the suspect got his ‘home-made shotgun’ and shot his wife once,” investigators said.

Rizaly suffered a fatal bullet wound and died shortly after she was brought to the provincial hospital in Laoag City for treatment.

It was the suspect himself who brought the victim to the hospital, according to Maj. Carlo Abing, chief of Sarrat police station.

Abing said the suspect was allegedly drunk when the argument and shooting happened.

Police recovered from the crime scene the firearm used to shoot the victim.

The police immediately arrested the suspect. He will be charged with parricide and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, the police said. INQ
