Pagasa: Fair Luzon weather; scattered rains in Visayas, Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — Generally good weather is expected in Luzon, including Metro Manila, on Sunday but thunderstorms are still possible in the afternoon and evening, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

“In the next 24 hours, asahan natin na sa Luzon land mass generally good weather ang inaasahang magiging panahon natin dito, sa umaga’t tanghali mababa ho ang tiyansa ng mga malawakang pagulan,” said Pagasa weather specialist, Loriedin De La Cruz.

(In the next 24 hours, generally good weather is expected in Luzon. There is a minimal chance of widespread rain in the morning and at noontime.)

“Pero sa hapon at gabi ang localized thunderstorms ay posible po sa malaking bahagi, especially sa western side, ng Luzon land mass,” she added.

(But in the afternoon and evening, localized thunderstorms are still possible, especially on the western side of the Luzon land mass.)

Meanwhile, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms in most parts of Mindanao and some parts of Visayas.

 “‘Yung ITCZ ay nakakaapakto ngayon sa katimugang Mindanao at nagdudulot ho ‘yan ng kalat kalat na pagulan, at pagkidlat, pagkulob na umaabot  sa ilang bahagi ng Visayas, at malaking bahagi ng Mindanao,” De la Cruz said.

(The Intertropical Convergence Zone is affecting southern Mindanao and causing scattered rains, lightning, that reaches parts of the Visayas, and most parts of Mindanao.)

The state weather bureau added that it is continuously monitoring tropical storm Champi outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

As of 3:00 a.m., it was last located 2,120 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

It is moving north-northeast at 25 kph, away from the Philippines.

Pagasa noted that the tropical storm is not expected to affect the country in any way.

Metro Manila: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius

Baguio City: 16 to 24 degrees Celsius

Laoag City:  24 to 32 degrees Celsius

Tuguegarao: 24 to 36 degrees Celsius

Legazpi City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius

Puerto Princesa City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius

Tagaytay: 22 to 31 degrees Celsius

Kalayaan Islands: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius

Iloilo City: 26 to 31 degrees Celsius

Cebu: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius

Tacloban City: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius

Cagayan De Oro City: 23 to 32 degrees Celsius

Zamboanga City: 23 to 31 degrees Celsius
