Ilocos Sur, La Union mourn former passing of ex-president Noynoy Aquino

LAOAG CITY — Residents of Ilocos Sur and La Union provinces joined the rest of the country in paying tribute to former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III who died Thursday morning (June 24). He was 61.

In a statement on Saturday, Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Luis Singson conveyed his province’s unity with the Aquino family in mourning.

Singson said Ilocos Sur is “grateful for his dedication to serve the Filipino people with genuine leadership espousing transparency and accountability in public service.”

“He will forever remain as an inspiration to the people for years to come,” the governor said.

In La Union, the provincial government thanked the former president on June 24 for his service to the nation.

Aquino, who served as the country’s 15th president from 2010 to 2016, was laid to rest beside his parents, former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr., and former President Corazon Aquino at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City on Saturday, June 26.
