TACLOBAN CITY — An inmate who escaped from a jail facility in Samar in 2019 was rearrested Monday, June 21, in Sampaloc, Manila.

Rodel Mabahin, 22, considered the seventh most wanted person in Calbiga town in Samar was captured by policemen in Sampaloc, where he hid for about three years.

The suspect was facing multiple charges of carnapping, serious illegal detention, robbery, theft, and homicide, among others.

Samar police director Glenn Oliver Cinco said someone informed the police about the whereabouts of Mabahin.

Mabahin and his brother, Roel, escaped from the Calbiga jail facility on March 11, 2019, by cutting the bars of their jail cell.

Roel remains at large.

Mabahin is now at the Regional Mobile Force Battalion at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, for documentation and disposition before he is turned over to the Calbiga police.

“The arrest of Mabahin was made through the coordinated efforts of police units. The community also plays a vital role in every police operation by giving information to our operatives in locating the suspect,” Cinco said in a statement.
