MANILA, Philippines — Taguig City remains one of the cities in the country with the lowest case fatality rate (CFR) for COVID-19, the OCTA Research group said Friday.
“The CFR in Taguig remained one of the lowest in the country, at 0.72 percent, below the CFR in NCR of 1.5 percent. Taguig also had one of the lowest deaths per million in the NCR, at 293 deaths per million people,” the independent research group said in a monitoring report.
According to OCTA Research, hospital bed utilization, intensive care unit utilization, and mechanical ventilator occupancy in Taguig hospitals all remain at the safe level below 60 percent.
Non-COVID beds and ICUs in the city are also at the safe level.
OCTA Research said the number of new COVID-19 cases in Taguig decreased by 13 percent to 53 per day from June 17 to 23. The research group added that the current daily average of new cases is 87 percent lower as compared to the average of over 400 cases per day during the peak of the surge in March and April.
The average daily attack rate in the Taguig is 6.16 per 100,000 population, which puts the city under moderate risk classification.
The reproduction number, or the average number of cases that could stem from one positive individual, was 0.70 from June 17 to 23, slightly lower than the 0.75 from the previous week. OCTA said the reproduction number in Taguig remained below 1 since May. It reached 2.16 during the peak of the surge.
Meanwhile, the positivity rate, or the percentage of people who test positive for COVID-19, remained at 11 percent over an average of 790 RT-PCR tests per day over the past week.
Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano welcomed the findings of the group. He attributed the results to the city’s healthcare workers who are also at the city’s vaccination sites.
Taguig City has vaccination sites located at SM Aura, Lakeshore area, Vista Mall Parking Building, Bonifacio High Street, Venice Grand Canal Mall, Lakeshore Trade Center, and the eight community vaccination centers at the RP Cruz Elementary School, EM’s Signal Village Elementary School, Western Bicutan National High School, St. Lukes Medical Center, Medical Center Taguig, and at the Sea Breeze Resort.
The LGU said these are in addition to the vaccination buses it has set provided for its residents.
