Bataan town councilor shot dead

HERMOSA, Philippines—A councilor here was shot dead by two unidentified men while he was on his way home to Barangay (village) Burgos Soliman in Hermosa town, Bataan, Monday afternoon, police said.

Councilor Ramon Jaring, 58, came from his office and was walking toward his house when he was shot in the head by one of two motorcycle-riding assailants at 1:40 p.m.

Police said Jaring was carrying a gun but failed to defend himself.

Mayor Danilo Malana said police suspected that a professional killer attacked Jaring.

“Police investigators said the method indicated that a professional assassin did this to Monching (Jaring),” said Malana.

Senior Superintendent Ricardo Zapata, Bataan police director, said police have yet to establish the motive or the identity of the suspects or mastermind in Jaring’s murder.

Malana said the incident stunned residents here. “Hermosa is relatively very peaceful. We are very, very sad with what had happened,” he said.
