MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Mandaluyong announced Wednesday it is still waiting for the next supply of the Russian’s Sputnik V for its residents’ second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Para sa mga nabakunahan ng Gamaleya Sputnik V noong June to 2, 3 at 4, ang supply ng second dose mula sa DOH (Department of Health) ay hinihintay pa natin,” the local government said in a Facebook notice.
(For those vaccinated with Gamaleya Sputnik V on June 2, 3 and 4, we are still waiting for the supply of the second dose from the DOH.)
It added that the interval between the first and second dose can be stretched from 21 days until 90 days or three months.
Those scheduled for the second dose of Sputnik V are advised to monitor the local government’s future announcements for the exact date of their next vaccination.
Meanwhile, the city of Manila also suspended the administration of Sputnik V’s second dose, which was supposedly today, June 23.
“Wala munang isasagawa na second dose vaccination bukas, June 23, para sa mga indibidwal na una nang nabakunahan gamit ang Sputnik V vaccine,” said Manila City’s Public Information Office (PIO) on Tuesday.
(No second dose vaccination will be conducted tomorrow, June 23, for individuals who have already been vaccinated with the Sputnik V vaccine.)
National Task Force against COVID-19 (NTF) chief implementer and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr said earlier Wednesday that the delivery of 50,000 doses of Sputnik V will be delayed due to “ongoing upgrades and latest developments on the vaccine.”
The arrival of Sputnik V’s component II has been anticipated since this batch was intended as second doses for those vaccinated with the COVID-19 jab this June.
Galvez, however, assured that the delays will not compromise the efficacy of the vaccine made in Russia.
The Philippines has so far received 180,000 doses of government-procured Sputnik V.
