MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported 119 more COVID-19 deaths, which puts the country’s fatality count to 23,928.
Data from the DOH showed this was 1.74 percent of all the 1,372,232 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.
Of the tally, 49,862 remain active cases, of which 2.1 percent are severe and 1.5 percent are critical that are at higher risk for death.
Previous case bulletins from the DOH showed there was an average of 115 deaths reported per day from June 17 to 23, lower than the 133 average from June 10 to 16.
Dr. Alethea De Guzman, OIC-Director of the DOH Epidemiology Bureau, said in an online media forum that Metro Manila has shown a continuous decline in deaths. The number of fatalities in Central Luzon is also going down but at a slower pace, while Calabarzon is not showing a marked decline.
She said the rest of the country is contributing to the majority of the deaths reported due to COVID-19.
By week of death, the average number of deaths per day from June 1 to 22 was 56, lower than the average of 107 average for the entire May and 121 in April.
