Daughter of NPA leader suspected in slay of FEU athlete nabbed in Masbate

LEGAZPI CITY—Police armed with an arrest warrant collared on Tuesday afternoon in Cawayan town in Masbate province a daughter of an alleged ranking communist rebel, for the June 6 murder of Far Eastern University football player Kieth Absalon and cousin.

Mariel Suson, 22, a resident of Barangay Cabungahan, was the subject of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Arnelo Mesa of the Regional Trial Court Branch 45 in Masbate City, according to Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson.

Suson was arrested at 5:40 p.m. in her village.

Colonel Juriz Cantoria, Masbate police chief, confirmed that Suson is facing double murder and two frustrated murder charges.

She is among those allegedly responsible for the blast that killed Absalon, 21, and his cousin Nolven, 40, while they were biking with relatives in Barangay Anas, Masbate City.

The New People’s Army operating in Bicol and Masbate later took responsibility for the detonation of the land mine and asked for forgiveness from the Absalon family for the “mistake” their comrades made.

Police said Suson is also facing a complaint for the killing on April 22 of Reinerio Villamar, also in Masbate City.

She was also identified as a daughter of Rogelio Suson, aka Manong/Julio, Secretary of the New People’s Army (NPA) Larangan 2 of the communist Bicol Regional Party Committee.

Suson was detained at the Masbate City police station for documentation and court disposition.
