60 new COVID-19 casualties push death toll to 23,809 — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — Another 60 COVID-19 deaths recorded on Tuesday pushed the country’s death toll to 23,809 according to latest numbers from the Department of Health (DOH).

DOH said that deaths represent 1.74 percent of the 1.367 million confirmed COVID-19 cases recorded in the country.

Earlier, DOH numbers showed that active COVID-19 cases went down to just 52,696 after the country recorded lower new infections and high recoveries — at 3,666 and 6,810, respectively.

DOH however said that the low case count may not be immediately due to an actual lowering of cases, but due to a low turnout of tests from laboratories since Sunday.

While all laboratories were operational last June 20, at least 12 were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Also, based on the data from the last 14 days, the 12 laboratories that did not submit data contributed to around 3.0 percent of all the samples tested, and 3.1 percent of all the positive cases.
