BACOLOD CITY – San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza has tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, June 20.

The prelate is symptomatic but was already in stable condition at a hospital.

“Now God allows me to be on the other side, among those infected with the dreaded virus,” he said.

Alminaza designated Msgr. Erwin Magnanao, vicar general of the Diocese of San Carlos, to temporarily take over his responsibilities.

“I ask for everyone’s prayers for my fast healing as well as for other COVID-19 patients even as I assure you too of my constant prayers and offerings,” the bishop said.

According to Fr. Marjun Almario, chancellor of the Diocese of San Carlos, Alminaza’s doctor advised the bishop to have complete rest.

“We will issue, if necessary, updates on his health condition,” Almario said.

“Bishop Alminaza wishes to thank everyone for your prayers and well wishes for his speedy recovery, and he strongly feels God is answering all our prayers,” he added.

Alminaza encouraged persons who interacted with him during the last few days to observe home quarantine and cooperate with the authorities for the proper protocols.
