CABAGAN, Isabela––A woman died, and 16 others were injured when an Elf truck on Sunday rammed a street light post along the national road here, police said.
Investigators said Elf truck driver Domingo Angoluan dozed off while driving, causing him to lose control of the vehicle before it crashed against a light pole on the road shoulder in Barangay Cansan at 3 p.m.
Many passengers were thrown out of the truck as it flipped on its side.
Police identified the fatality as Milagros Garro, who was pinned underneath the vehicle and died instantly.
The other victims, including the driver, were taken to the Milagros Albano District Hospital for treatment.
Two of them were in critical condition and transferred to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao City.
Angoluan will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and property damage. INQ
