MANILA, Philippines — Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones vowed to impose ‘appropriate sanctions’ to those responsible for erroneous modules, taking a cue from Vice President Leni Robredo’s suggestion to put up a “system” for modular gaffes.
Robredo, during her Sunday radio show, said the errors in modules could have been prevented from reaching the schools and students if there was a proper system in place.
“The recent event, which triggered the reaction, and we thank the vice president for her comments, happened in February, and has already been resolved and I am reopening it to make sure that we build the proper thing,” Briones said in an online press briefing.
“And ang dagdag ko lang na opinion dito, it is high time na kung kailangan talaga magpataw ng appropriate na sanction, ipataw yung appropriate sanction sa mga nagkamali,” she added.
(And my additional opinion in this, it is high time to impose appropriate sanction to those who made the mistake.)
She cited an example where a 22-year old teacher in Zambales got sanctioned for creating a module with ‘dirty names’ which “resulted in the resignation of that teacher, and a written apology.”
