More than 5,000 cops axed since 2016, says PNP chief

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—More than 5,000 members of the Philippine National Police had been dismissed from the service since 2016 for various offenses, PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said Monday, June 21.

In a program for his two-day command visit in Central Luzon, Eleazar also told officials that part of his “intensified cleanliness policy” was to “improve the discipline in our ranks.”

He said only the best and qualified could enter the police force.

Eleazar gave medals and cash incentives to 13 cops, three of them women, for what he called small, good deeds,” like helping civilians and fighting insurgency and illegal drugs.

He also made a surprise inspection of the police station in Sto. Tomas town in Pampanga, praising it later for having “very good” standards in cleanliness and orderliness.
