MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 cases in Mindanao and the Visayas continue to rise as Davao City leads the list of local government units (LGUs) with the most number of new infection cases from June 13 to June 19, according to the latest monitoring report of the OCTA research group on Sunday.
According to OCTA research, Davao City recorded an average of 252 new cases per day — higher than the previous week’s recorded average of 177.
Other LGUs on the list are Bacolod City with 131 average cases (149 the previous week); Iloilo City with 122 (113 the previous week); Cagayan de Oro City with 94 cases (106 the previous week) and Zamboanga City with 64 cases (60 the previous week).
OCTA also reported that the intensive care unit (ICU) utilization rate in Davao City is now critical at 95 percent.
Bacolod City, on the other hand, is at a 100 percent ICU utilization rate while Cagayan de Oro is at 83 percent.
Other “priority regions” that have its ICU utilization rates at high to critical risks are the following: Baguio City at 77 percent; General Santos City at 86 percent; Tagum at 85 percent; Koronadal, South Cotabato at 100 percent; San Pablo, Laguna at 86 percent; Tuguegarao at 98 percent; Cotabato at 94; Bacoor at 100 percent; Tagbilaran at 81 and Naga City in Camarines Sur at 85 percent.
Meanwhile, the National Capital Region recorded an average of 750 new cases, which is lower than the previous week’s 842 cases.
Health experts earlier reported that the Philippines now has a total of 1,353,220 COVID-19 cases as of June 19, with 59,439 active cases, 1,270,243 recoveries, and 23,538 deaths.
