MANILA, Philippines — Provisionally hired teachers face dismissal if the requirement for them to pass the licensure examinations for professional teachers (LEPT) would not be suspended due to the pandemic.
ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro urged Congress to heed House Joint Resolution No. 39, which seeks to suspend the requirement for provisionally hired teachers to pass the LEPT within five years of hiring.
Castro pointed out that “there is still no certainty that the LEPT will push through” in September 2021 due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Castro explained that the contracts of these teachers in 2016 would expire on July 10, which means they could lose their jobs for failure to take the LEPT.
But the Professional Regulation Commission has postponed the LEPT three times in the past year.
